Lang Homecoming – July 28th, July 29th, and July 30th 2017

Lang Homecoming Committee – we have always had great homecomings including Saskatchewan’s Golden Jubilee in 1955 and Canada’s 100th birthday in 1967. We were a part of the committee for 1980 Celebrate Saskatchewan homecoming, in 2005 for Saskatchewan’s 100th birthday, and this year for Canada’s 150th.

Once again we have a great group of Committee members with a good mix of veterans and new members; people who have lived their whole lives here and people who have recently moved to make Lang their home and those in between. Our first meeting was full of ideas and enthusiasm and the rest have been the same, with new members coming on board and ideas being finalized. We chose making memories, sharing history and preserving community as our focus for this year’s homecoming.

We begin on Friday, July 28th with registration in the afternoon at 3:00 pm, Pork Supper at the hall at 4:30 pm, beer gardens, and what we hope will be a massive parade at 7:00 pm. If you or your business, or an organization you belong to would like to book an entry into the parade contact the following: Judy Beck at (phone 306-464-2116) or Jim and Joanne Faulkner at (phone 306-464-2091). Entries can be anything from, old vehicles, machinery, horses, floats, bicycles, whatever you want!

Following the parade we will return to the hall for the official cutting of the cake and then conclude with a bonfire and wiener roast.

Saturday, July 29th begins with a breakfast at the hall sponsored by Cross Country Coop. The day includes a Heritage Centre at the rink giving of lots of time for visiting and sharing of stories. Children’s events including a straw bale maze, events throughout the maze and bouncy castles. There will be ball games at the ball diamonds, Beer gardens, and Lunch time concessions.

A historical scavenger hunt will take place throughout the village. For those with mobility issues, transportation will be provided. The scavenger hunt will end up back at the hall where there will be a homemade ice cream making demonstration (possibly a butter making demonstration)followed by strawberries and ice cream for all.

Later on, a Roast Beef Supper from 5:00-7:00 pm will be held at the Lang Community Center. Lang was always known for their old time Saturday night dances for many years, so what else would come next but an Old Time dance at the hall with music by Al and Company. Also that evening we will be releasing helium balloons, each with a glow stick inside released in memory of those gone before or memories of good times now and in the past.

At ten o’clock we will break for a fantastic fireworks show put on by Paradise Fireworks. All those who donate to fireworks will have their name displayed in lights prior to the show. Should you or your company or organization like to donate contact Joanne or Jim Faulkner or call 1-306-464-2091.

Sunday, July 30th begins with an interdenominational church service, followed by a brunch sponsored by Weyburn Credit Union, visiting, and good byes.
